Between history and art on the summit of Turin

The Church

The origins of the Basilica of Superga are linked to a vow made by Duke Victor Amadeus II of Savoy during the Siege of Turin in 1706. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the city was besieged by Franco-Spanish troops, predominantly French forces in the service of Louis XIV.

The Basilica guards a lesser-known treasure of great historical significance: the Royal Tombs of the House of Savoy. This solemn place, filled with memory, tells the story of a dynasty — and, through it, the story of an entire nation.

The Chapel of the Vow

The Chapel of the Vow The Chapel of the Vow houses the tabernacle containing the Eucharist and represents the spiritual heart of the Basilica of Superga. It commemorates both a historical event and the deep devotion of the House of Savoy to Our Lady of Grace. Here stands the original wooden statue, dating back to 1624, before which a vow was made for the liberation of the city of Turin in 1706.
