On Sunday, 13 September 2026 at 11:00 am, the Basilica of Superga will celebrate a Solemn Mass for the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the titular feast of the Basilica.
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated in the liturgical calendar on 8 September. At Superga, the principal celebration will take place on Sunday, 13 September, in a particularly meaningful occasion made even more significant by the twinning with the Basilica Maria Ausiliatrice.
The Mass will be presided over by the Rector of the Basilica Maria Ausiliatrice, Father Michele Viviano, and accompanied by the Choir of Maria Ausiliatrice.
The feast of Mary's Nativity invites us to contemplate the beginning of the life of the woman who, according to the faith of the Church, was chosen to welcome the Son of God. Her birth stands at the beginning of a history of salvation fulfilled in Christ: to celebrate Mary is therefore to look to her and, through her, to the mystery of Christ's coming.
For the Basilica of Superga, this celebration has an even deeper significance, since the Nativity of Mary is the titular feast of the Basilica. Her presence is also expressed through the art preserved within the church: on the right-hand side, the altar dedicated to the Nativity features a precious Carrara marble high relief depicting the Infant Mary with Saints Joachim and Anne, begun by Francesco Moderati and entrusted in 1728 to Agostino Cornacchini, who almost entirely reworked it.
The celebration on 13 September will therefore be an opportunity to experience Mary's feast together through prayer and liturgy, strengthening the bond between the Basilica of Superga and the Basilica Maria Ausiliatrice, united in a shared journey of faith and Marian devotion.
