A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed to launch the redevelopment process of the Basilica of Superga and to enhance its cultural and social value.
A total of €15 million has been allocated, including €9 million from the Ministry of Tourism and €6 million from the Ministry of Culture, to be disbursed over the 2024–2026 period for the renovation of all internal and external spaces of the Basilica.
The project includes the restoration of valuable areas, full accessibility to all spaces, the cataloguing and digitization of the ancient volumes of the royal library, the creation of an interactive museum route, and the improvement of transport links to the Superga hill.
The memorandum was signed by Corrado Azzollini, Superintendent of the Ministry of Culture – Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape Office for the Metropolitan City of Turin; Vittorio Maugliani, Acting Director of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport – Interregional Directorate for Piedmont, Aosta Valley, and Liguria; Sebastiano Caizza, Regional Director of the State Property Agency; Alberto Cirio, President of the Piedmont Region; and Stefano Lo Russo, Mayor of Turin.
Also in attendance was the Fraternity of Hope of the Sermig, which has long managed the site.
The agreement is valid for five years and may be extended depending on the progress of the works.
