Duke Victor Amadeus II initiated the construction of the Basilica of Superga and entrusted the design to Filippo Juvarra, a Sicilian architect in the service of the House of Savoy. The foundation stone was laid in 1717, and the sanctuary was inaugurated fourteen years later, in 1731.
The Sermig and the Basilica of Superga

The Great Torino
On 4 May 1949, behind the Convent of the Basilica of Superga, the plane carrying the players of the Grande Torino team crashed. In their memory, a memorial plaque was placed at the rear of the complex — a site that still draws fans and football enthusiasts to this day.
